Summary

Jesus sits down to teach and, once again, starts with a question that seems ridiculous. “Where are we to buy bread for these people to eat?” Six months’ wages wouldn’t be enough to feed all of those people, and he knows it. But, the disciples bring what they have, which isn’t even theirs to begin with – it’s the sack lunch of a boy from the crowd – and in the hands of Jesus, taken, blessed, broken, and given, it’s enough to feed the whole crowd with plenty left over. When we do the same with our lives – bringing whatever we have to Jesus, recognizing that God has chosen us and blessed us and that even our brokenness can point to Him, and allowing God to use us, to give us away – there is enough to go around with plenty left over. What if the boy had hidden his sack lunch? We may not feel as though we have much to offer, but we’re called to offer it up anyway, allowing Jesus to take, bless, break, and give it. “For God so loved the world that He sent His only Son…”
