Jesus being human changes everything. Because he didn’t just look like a human, like Superman, with hidden super-powers for resisting temptation, and he wasn’t just a superhuman mind and will locked in a human body like the Terminator. If either of these were the case, then Jesus couldn’t really relate to us, and we couldn’t really relate to him. If Jesus was like Superman or the Terminator, then he was never really here, he was never really tempted, so he was never really obedient, and he didn’t really die, and our sins aren’t really covered. BUT Jesus did share our humanity so that “by his death he might break the power of him who holds the fear of death…and free those who, all their lives, were held in slavery by their fear of death (Hebrews 2:14-15).” Jesus didn’t just set us free for a little while. He set us free for eternal life – an eternal life that has already begun – and “because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted (Hebrews 2:18).” Jesus’ humanity changes everything. Do you believe it?
