Service

In the book of Jeremiah God’s words to the exiles were,

“But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.” 29:7

In the Community

Serving the Community is part of who we strive to be. We made a meal for local homeless folks, filled 69 relief kits for folks in Haiti and sent two members to Haiti before we officially had our first service. We love to use this quote to help remind us why we serve.

“If you have come to help me, you are wasting your time. But if you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together.” Lila Watson

We helped paint the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Free Clinic. Here is a thank you from the Staff and 250-Volunteer Free Clinic Family.

At the Christmas Parade

During the Christmas Parade we handed out 300 Christmas cards with either $10 or $20 cash and a stamped postcard with the following note:

“This is a no-strings-attached gift to you, this Christmas. If you are in need, use it! If you do not need it, make it a no-strings-attached gift from you to someone else.”

We also provided a space where they could share their story with us. Some envelops landed in the hands of folks who needed it and others in the hands of some who could pass it on. Here are some of the responses!

Teaming up with other organizations

We are currently working with a few organizations within the community for service opportunities. We are experimenting with the Volunteerspot.com and hope to provide folks with a variety of options and assistance for getting plugged in within the community and church.
